Lakeview Elementary School

Giving students safe opportunities to explore spaces and stay physically active is an important undertaking during the current climate emphasized by the recent climate. It’s never been more critical that students learn non-verbal communication with peers.

Repertory Dance Theatre presented Lakeview Elementary Students with an interactive performance that navigated these topics. Students learned how dance works as a founding language that ties us together, showcasing different forms of folk dance and physical shapes expressing emotion. The theatre group modeled what staying fit could look like, entertaining the students through their exaggerated movements and physical feats. The group also asked students to move in creative maneuvers while seated, offering students a chance to think about communication and expression with their bodies while still staying within a comfortable bubble of space from their peers.

Students are coming up against new and foreign obstacles for communicating in social spaces. It was great to see kids enjoy some physical activity, think creatively about social space, and celebrate culture through this immersive experience. Thank you to the Repertory Dance Theatre for putting on the event, which you can read more about here.
