Dear Kindergarten Parents,

Welcome to Lakeview Elementary! We look forward to you and your child becoming part of our wonderful school community. We are so excited for the new school year to begin!

Kindergarteners and their families will be receiving a link to our Virtual Back to School Night on Tuesday, August 18, where you will meet your teacher and visit your classroom virtually. We have been preparing to make our year safe and healthy for all.

Kindergarteners begin their year with a beginning of the year assessment. Assessment days are August 19-25. Those choosing the In School Learning option please follow the directions at this link to schedule an appointment. Those choosing the Home Study option are also strongly encouraged to set up an appointment following the instructions at the link. For safety precautions, plan on only one parent/guardian and no siblings to accompany your kindergartener to the assessment appointment. Parent and kindergartener will check in at the office and then come to their kindergarten room. Please remember to wear your mask. We’ll have hand sanitizer for you to use in the classroom.

We encourage you to sign up for a time slot as soon as you can. Slots fill up quickly. If you do not have Internet access, please contact the school at 801-374-4990. We look forward to our assessment times. They are a special time for kindergarten teachers to meet and get to know their students one on one.

Kindergarten starts on Wednesday, Aug. 26. Parents should say any “good-byes” at the drop off point, which is the kindergarten playground. This helps the child develop independence and an understanding that school is their “job” and classroom duties are their own responsibilities. We want to foster independence and an “I Can Do It” attitude. If you choose to walk your child to the playground, we appreciate you parking in the designated parking lot and always using the crosswalk.

At the end of the day, we will walk all the students out the kindergarten doors to their wait area. Kindergarten students will be required to wait in their area until a parent or older sibling picks them up. For safety reasons, it’s appreciated that students be picked up on time.
