Lakeview Elementary School

Lakeview was thrilled to host a group of teachers and leaders from Kamehameha schools in Hawaii on Friday. They are hoping to establish a DLI program with the Hawaiian language.  They expressed their thanks and were very impressed with our teachers and students as they visited some of our classrooms.

According to Wikipedia, “In 2001, native speakers of Hawaiian amounted to less than 0.1% of the statewide population. Linguists were unsure if Hawaiian and other endangered languages would survive.” Although they have made great strides, the language is classified as a critically endangered language by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
